How Important Are the 7 News Values? (Critical Analysis #5)

There are 7 news values for sports journalism. I feel like some values are more important than others.

#1 most important is Timeliness. If you are a reporter or journalist, you have to get your information out as soon as possible. If not, someone else will and your story won’t matter as much because people want to read the first things that come out.

#2 Currency

#3 Prominence

#4 Conflict

#5 Proximity

#6 Impact

#7 and least important is Bizarreness. A story being strange or unusual does help catch attention to your story, but the other six values are more important to sports writing than this one.
