Sports Journalism's Place Within Journalism (Critical Analysis #2)

In the article The History of Sports Journalism, the author states that “sports journalism’s place within journalism as a whole has always been a complicated one”. The article quotes Christopher Walsh when he wrote that “we are the enemy… we are not real journalists; we are the best journalism has to offer”. What this means to me is that although they consider themselves to be the best in their profession, news journalists don’t even consider them as “real” journalists. The article also says that sports journalists are seen as “entertainment, not ‘real journalism’”. So this is complicated, because although they do fit in the same category, news journalists sometimes don't consider sports journalists as “real” ones.
