Thought it was interesting that he scheduled a lunch meeting behind the owner’s back.
The owner wanted Morabito to keep Martin away from the press so that he didn’t get in trouble.
You did not want to get on the bad side of writers back then.
I’m surprised by the amount of people who read the newspaper back then.
The paper had a lot of power.
Martin had a few drinks and made controversial comments about a baseball player.
It could have been big news but it turns out the workers of the major newspapers went on strike.
It was almost like good luck for the Yankees, who had a great record after the newspapers stopped printing, went all the way to the playoffs, and won the World Series.
Martin seemed to be serious when he said that he didn’t care if Gossage killed Billy Sample.
A bunch of people got into a fight on a plane.
Dick Young was the king of sports writing.
There was a lot of alcohol involved throughout this entire story.
Billy Martin’s mouth got him fired.
This was a crazy story of the comeback of the Yankees while the drama of the sports newspaper affected things greatly.
